Are you obsessed with "managing your time?" Too many people get bogged
down with this concept. The truth is that we all have the same 24 hours
in a day. If you focus on time, you might be held back by transactional
things.
One view says, "When my heart kicks into gear (i.e., when I feel passionate), I'll invest my resources." But the correct view is, "I'm going to get involved because familiarity will increase my awareness, and once relationships are established I'll want to invest more than just my time and energy."
It was clear to me at that point that the manager—and perhaps the whole restaurant—had no clue about the value of a customer. But she could still save the situation, if she wanted.
I am not sure exactly when I "woke up."
It was more of a gradual stage for me than a sudden awakening.
Nevertheless, I learned to take each of my life circumstances and play
them accordingly—like a hand of cards.
