Michael McMillan, in his book Pink Bat, takes a novel approach to solving the various "Candle Problems" by telling a story from his youth. He weaves a story about how his friends altered the game of baseball to fit their limited space and limited resources (they didn't have a real bat or ball, and had to improvise).
