THE HOW TO CATCH CHALLENGE OFFICIAL RULES
IMPORTANT: Please read these Official Rules before entering the How to Catch Challenge (the “Challenge”) presented by Sourcebooks LLC (“Sponsor”). By entering the Contest, you agree to the terms of these Official Rules. These Official Rules shall govern in the event of any inconsistency with other Challenge-related materials.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.
ELIGIBILITY: The Challenge is open to residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia, who are 18 years of age or older or have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at time of entry. Parents, legal guardians, or classroom teachers may submit videos on behalf of families or classrooms that include or feature children, provided they have obtained all necessary permissions from any parents or legal guardians of minors appearing in the video. For purposes of these Official Rules, “classroom” means a group of students taught together by a single teacher, including traditional school classrooms, homeschool classrooms, or comparable organized educational groups supervised by an adult.
This Challenge is directed to adults; entries must be submitted by an adult. No child may submit an entry on their own behalf.
Challenge is subject to all applicable laws and regulations. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED. Employees of Sponsor, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, and agencies, and their immediate family members and persons living in their household are not eligible to enter the Contest.
ENTRY PERIOD: The Contest begins at 12:01 AM (Eastern Time) on August 19, 2026 and ends at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on October 26, 2026.
HOW TO ENTER: Online entry only. During the Contest Period, eligible entrants (parents, legal guardians, or teachers) may enter in one (1) of the following ways:

Please note, the video may feature children, but the post must be made by an adult parent, guardian, or teacher. Each post must include the hashtag #HowToCatchChallenge in the caption to qualify.
Entrants are encouraged, but not required, to challenge another classroom, family, or teacher to enter the Contest in their caption or post.
- Alternate Method of Entry: Entrants who prefer not to post their photo or video publicly on social media may submit their photo or video via the form linked here. All entries, regardless of method of submission, will be judged using the same criteria.
Automated or child-directed entries are prohibited. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, or incomplete entries. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. In the event of a dispute, entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address used for entry. Automated entries are prohibited, and any use of automated devices will result in disqualification. Sponsor is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of information by entrants; lost or late entries or transmissions; interrupted or unavailable network, server, or other connections; scrambled transmissions or other errors or problems of any kind whether mechanical, human, or electronic, technical malfunctions of any computer hardware, software, or any combinations thereof; or problems associated with any virus or any other damage caused to entrants’ systems. Incomplete or illegible entries will be voided. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned.
Comments and/or posts including photographs or videos may not include obscene, offensive or inappropriate (in Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion) material or defame any person, or otherwise infringe on any person’s proprietary rights. If you are posting a photograph or video, you must have permission from the photographer/videographer (or be the photographer/videographer yourself) and have permission from any persons who appear in the photo or video before submitting it.
PRIVACY POLICY: All information submitted in connection with entry to this Contest shall be governed by Sponsor’s privacy policy (at https://www.sourcebooks.com/privacy-policy.html). By entering this Contest, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this privacy policy.
PRIZE:
ONE (1) Grand Prize Winner – an individual or a classroom – will receive: (i) Inclusion in the dedication of a future How to Catch book; (ii) A virtual visit and “Draw Along” session with illustrator Andy Elkerton (Andy’s drawings from the session will be sent to the winner); (iii) Two (2) full sets of How to Catch picture books – one for the winner and one for a classroom or library of the winner’s choice; (iv) One (1) set of How to Catch swag; (v) Honorary How to Catch Kid certificates for the winner (and for all participating students, if the winner is a classroom entry); (vi) Honorary feature placement on HowtoCatchSeries.com; (vii) Featured on How to Catch social channels
Grand Prize Approximate Retail Value: $650.00
FIVE (5) Finalists will receive:
(i) One (1) full set of How to Catch picture books; (ii) A congratulatory video message from Andy Elkerton; (iii) An honorary How to Catch Kid certificate; (iv) Social feature
Finalist Prize Approximate Retail Value: $275.00
WINNER SELECTION: This is a contest of skill, not chance. Eligible entries will be judged by representatives of Sponsor based on the following criteria: (i) Passion, (ii) Creativity, (iii) Enthusiasm, and (iv) Connection to the How to Catch series.
The entrants receiving the highest overall scores will be selected as potential winners, subject to verification. Judging will take place on or about October 26–November 8, 2026. Decisions of the judges and Sponsor are final and binding on all matters related to the Contest.
Potential winners will be notified via the contact information provided with their entry (including via direct message for social media submissions) and must respond within ten (10) days. For classroom entries, the submitting classroom teacher will be deemed the entrant and primary point of contact on behalf of the class. Winners may also be required to complete, execute, and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release.
Noncompliance with these conditions may result in forfeiture of the Prize, and Sponsor reserves the right to select alternate winners (in random drawing from other eligible entries received before the deadline) in such circumstance. If winner notification of the Prize is returned as undeliverable, Sponsor may, at its discretion, select an alternate winner.
The Grand Prize winner will be publicly announced during STEAM Week, on or about November 14, 2026.
DISCLAIMERS/LICENSE: By competing in this Contest and/or accepting the prize, entrants agree that Sponsor, and its respective parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries and affiliates, and advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and all of their respective employees, officers and directors will have no liability whatsoever, and will be held harmless by entrants for any liability for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to person and property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of the prizes, or participation in this Contest.
To the extent allowed by law, participation in the Contest in any way, or acceptance of, or participation in, any prize constitutes each entrant’s consent for, and grant of a non-exclusive, sub-licensable and assignable license to Sponsor to use, publish, post or display entrant’s name, social media handles, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions, statements, as submitted in connection with the Contest, and the likeness, photograph, or appearance of any individuals (including minors) who appear in the submitted video, prize information, regardless of whether altered, or used alone or with other material, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, for promotional, advertising, and publicity purposes in any medium now known or later discovered, worldwide and in perpetuity, without review or approval, and without further notice, payment, or consideration of any kind. All rights, consents and licenses granted to Sponsor under these Official Rules and/or any Affidavit of Eligibility and Release will survive the termination of this Contest.
RIGHT TO MODIFY OR CANCEL: Sponsor may cancel, suspend or modify the Contest or any part of it, in any way, if Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that the Contest is not capable of executing as Sponsor intended, or that any error, omission, fraud, technical failure, tampering, computer virus, or other factor, technical or otherwise, beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control, impairs or may impair Sponsor’s ability to properly conduct the Contest, subject to any applicable law or regulation.
In the event of any inconsistency between these Official Rules and any disclosure or other statement contained in any Contest-related materials, these Official Rules will govern.
DISPUTES: Any dispute arising from this Contest will be determined according to the laws of the State of Illinois, without reference to its conflict of law principles, and by entering the entrants consent to the personal jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in DuPage County and agree that such courts have exclusive jurisdiction over all such disputes.
