product description

“Winning is not a some time thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing…” ~ Excerpt from Vince Lombardi’s “What It Takes to Be #1” speech

Lombardi! Perhaps no single word in the English language communicates such strong visions of excellence, discipline, commitment, and of course, winning. The Lombardi philosophy transcends football! His powerful words capture the fundamentals of success in any sport, any business, any life, and any age.

Through this book and Vince Lombardi’s words, you can learn to apply the Lombardi philosophy to:

  • Inspire repeatable success within your business, teams, and personal life.
  • Promote teamwork, integrity, and mental toughness to produce winning results.
  • Use the movie to open up your next sales meeting, leadership retreat, or team meeting, and get revved up to win!

This remarkable gift book will bring Lombardi’s philosophy to life, like never before. With vintage photographs (some seen for the first time), great quotes, and nine inspirational chapters by Lombardi’s son, Vince Lombardi Jr,. that tie back to his father’s speech (Commitment, Discipline, Excellence, Mental Toughness, Habit, Faith, Passion, Results, and Truths), this book also includes a never-before released CD of Lombardi’s famous speech and a DVD.

What It Takes to Be Number One is a gift that will be treasured for years to come!

About Authors

VINCE LOMBARDI, (6/11/1913 - 9/3/1970)

Lombardi! There may be no single word in the English language that communicates such strong visions of excellence, discipline, commitment and, of course…winning.

Vince Lombardi, at age 45, became the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. His previous NFL experience consisted of five years as an assistant coach with the New York Giants. In just nine years with the Packers, Lombardi became the symbol of excellence for an entire sport. In 1959, Lombardi was voted NFL coach of the year. For the next eight years, the Packers were in a class by themselves, winning five NFL championships and winning Super Bowls I and II.

Lombardi died in 1970 shortly after moving to Washington, where in his first year as a coach he led a struggling Washington Redskins team to a winning record of 7-5. The Lombardi philosophy, however, has lived on. It transcends football, and truly captures the fundamentals of success—in any sport, any business, or any life.

VINCE LOMBARDI, JR., the son of the great football coach Vincent T. Lombardi, spent his early years in an atmosphere full of success and achievement. Armed with honesty, integrity and authenticity—virtues he places above all others—Vince earned a law degree and maintained a private practice while serving in the Minnesota Legislature.

Vince made the jump from law and politics to professional football in 1975 when he joined the fledgling Seattle Seahawks as an assistant to the GM. He went on to become Assistant Executive Director of the NFL Management Council as a labor negotiator, and later led two United States Football League teams as President and GM. To each of these organizations Vince brought direction, enthusiasm and the impetus to succeed.

Vince also brings that same passion to his speaking and writing. He's written four books and speaks 60-70 times a year on topics such as Leadership, Motivation and Teambuilding. For more information, please visit www.vincejr.com.

What It Takes To Be Number One
This was all I expected and more. The life message for young men is so needed. I am sending it to Owensboro Treatment Center where boys are being helped to turn their lives around.

What It Takes To Be Number One
This was just okay for me. I liked the design and layout, but didn't find it as inspirational as some other books.

What It Takes To Be Number One
Actually I'm returning it. It's very male oriented and gender specific. Too much emphasis on winning and excludes how we learn life's lessons through our occasional losses. I was very disappointed.
