product description

“Regardless of where you were born or what your financial position in life, the power to affect your own future lies within your own hands. Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.” ~ Nido Qubein

Every once in awhile, you meet someone whose perspective changes yours…whose way of looking at the world challenges you to be a better person.

Dr. Nido Qubein is one of those people. His personal story is an inspiration in itself. He arrived in this country as a teenage immigrant with little knowledge of English and 50 dollars in his pocket. But, what he did have was a belief that if you work hard enough and smart enough, you can make good things happen in your life. And that’s exactly what he did.

Now the president of High Point University in High Point, North Carolina, Dr. Qubein is also Chairman of Great Harvest Bread Company and director of several New York Stock Exchange companies. He’s been an entrepreneur, consultant, author and one of the most sought-after speakers in the country.

In his latest book, Seven Choices for Success and Significance, Dr. Qubein shares his insights on the choices he made for success.

“Success is not a matter of luck, not an accident of birth, not a reward for virtue. The most successful people I know are the ones who have something to do, somewhere to be and someone to love.

No one is responsible for your success or your joy. You must search for it and be in a continual state of earning it. To merely succeed is not an end in itself. You must use your success to impact other people…to impact the world…to live life from the inside out. It all starts with the choices you make—they determine the person you will become.”

~ An excerpt from Seven Choices for Success and Significance.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from someone who not only has set a standard for achievement, but who does so in a way which gives back to others. Seven Choices for Success and Significance will give you the tools you need to choose both success and significance in your own life. So today is the day to start living the life of your dreams. It all starts with the right choices, because the choices you make define the person you become.

I would not buy this product again
With the exception of a couple of good insights, the book contained pretty standard stuff that's in lots of other tips and guidelines for successful living; also the supporting copy was pretty thin on some of the points; generally not up to the standard of most other books in your library

    Graduation Gift
This was a graduation gift for my son, I haven't read it completely, but after skimming through it I knew it was the right choice for sending him off to college, to spread his wings, with the hopes that when he faces challenges this book along with my teachings will give him the guidance he needs.
      Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      Live from the inside out
I enjoy sharing information with my teams at work that I learn from the Simple Truth books I order. The message I will always remember from Dr. Qubein's book will be "Your reputation is what other people think you are; you character is what God knows you are". My prayer is that my reputation and character will be the same. I hope I can share that with others that I am an example for each day.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

          Incoming College Freshmen
We just dropped our son off at college and a neighbor's son leaves next week. (The neighbor's son will attend High Point University where author Nido Qubein is president, and will receive more of his teachings there.) I bought 2 copies as gifts for both young men, to provide inspiration, show love and support while providing a subtle personal challenge to each. Both kids are already "successful", but becoming "significant" is more personal and spritual with the potential of magnifying their efforts many times over while improving the lives of others. Mr. Qubein is extraordinary and lists several of his accomplishments in the book. He says that "immigrants are 4 times more likely to become millionaires than born Americans...because they are thankful, grateful and not whinning." Seems scary, but true. Speaking of privilidged upbringing, High Point is becomming an "elite" school and costs 3 times more (not including additional family contributions) than other public universities in NC. It will be interesting to see if High Point graduates apply the lessons better/more than graduates of other schools. (My personal opionion is that many of the traits listed in the book including spirituality, morality, goal-setting, self-motivation and work ethic are learned before college.) Anyway, great book. I wish the best for all, regardless of their college choices. M. Hillman
