product description

Mother Teresa said, “To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.” Most women are so busy filling the lamps of the people they love that they let their own lamps run low. They spend so much time and energy taking care of their children, husbands, aging parents, friends, neighbors, bosses, coworkers, and others that they often neglect themselves.

Awareness is the first step toward solving a problem. So the first section of Oil for Your Lamp is devoted to helping us acknowledge the problem and understand the reasons for it. The first section of the book looks at how girls are socialized, growing up to be women who put others first. Subsequently, it examine the values women have adopted in the past fifty years, beginning with the feminist movement—leading us to believe that we can have it all—all at once. And then explores the corresponding myth that we can DO it all.

But don’t be discouraged. Help is on the way—in the second section, we’ll get into solutions for the problem. We’ll learn the value of doing nothing, how to play again, how to become more inner-directed, and most important, how to ask for help.

It’s the new golden rule for women: “Do unto yourself as you would do to others.”

    Oil For Your Lamp
This book is a gift for my sister who has taken care of everyone else, to the detriment of her health. She is now partially disabled and still caring for others. I'm hoping this book will help her to realize that if she doesn't take care of herself, she can't take care of others.

      Oil For Your Lamp
I bought this book to share with my daughters who are busy wives and mothers. I hoped it would encourage them as their value to those around them & taking time to build their spiritual lives so they would be strengthened to give to others. It seemed to be a book written by worldly women and how they need to be their needs before their families. They can get that instruction anywhere so I returned it.

        Oil For You Lamp
Excellent Book! Years ago, when I was on airlines, I took exception to the idea of putting on my own oxygen, in an emergency, before putting it on my child or another person. I eventually "got" that we can't be givers if we don't have our own oil reservoir filled, first. "Oil for your Lamp" speaks volumes on this topic without preaching. It addresses the whys and the hows. I have already shared my copy and will purchase others for sharing.

          Highly Recommended
I first saw some sample quotes from this book in an email that was sent to me. I had been dealing with some issues and the quotes that were given lifted my spirits and I was inspired to buy the book. When I got it, I couldn't put it down! It is refreshing, funny, true to life and the messages re-kindled my spirit. I shared it with my daughters and they agreed it is a good book. Thank You!
